A Department of State Services (DSS) officer in Kebbi State, Dauda Auwalu Taura, reportedly slapped and threatened to kill Shuaibu Zubairu Tatu, a correspondent for *Authority* newspaper, over a dispute regarding electricity bills.
The incident occurred after Taura, who occupies two apartments, allegedly refused to pay his full share of the N10,000 electricity bill. When confronted, Taura allegedly slapped the journalist six times and threatened, “You have received beating for nothing, and you will die for nothing. If I kill you today, nothing will happen.”
Eyewitnesses, including a neighbor, Maryam Aminu, confirmed that Taura slapped Tatu twice and attempted to strangle him before other residents intervened. Tatu, who has an existing eye problem, claimed the assault worsened his condition and left him in fear for his safety.
The journalist has since called for justice, expressing concerns about the abuse of power by the DSS officer
