Court warns DSS DG for Blocking Nnamdi Kanu’s Legal Team
The Federal High Court in Abuja has issued a stern warning to the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, threatening to imprison him for blocking the legal team of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The court accused Ajayi of defying its order granting Kanu’s lawyers routine access to him, and served a Notice of Consequences to the DSS DG. The notice, issued by the court’s Registrar, warned that failure to comply with the court’s directive would lead to contempt proceedings and possible imprisonment.
Kanu’s lead counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, revealed the development in a statement, threatening to initiate contempt charges if the DSS DG continues to obstruct legal access to Kanu.
The Notice of Consequences served on Ajayi specifies that if the court order is not obeyed by allowing Kanu’s lawyers to visit him as per the schedule, he will be held in contempt and could face jail time.
Ejimakor expressed frustration over the repeated disobedience of the court order, noting that for nearly a month, Kanu’s legal team has been denied visitation rights by the DSS under Ajayi’s leadership.
