An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court on Thursday sentenced an 18-year-old, Sakiru Bushira, to 12 months in prison for shop-breaking and stealing.
Bushira, of no fixed address, was convicted on a three-count charge of conspiracy, unlawful break-in and stealing.
However, Magistrate O.O Odumosu sentenced Bushira following his plea of guilt.
Odumosu also said Bashira was an unrepentant criminal who enjoyed the pleasure of committing crime and not willing to change.
She held that the prosecution had proven beyond reasonable doubt that the convict was guilty of the offence.
The magistrate thereafter handed him a six-month imprisonment without an option of fine.
Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Olakunle Shonibare, had told the court that the convict committed the offence on Sept. 17 at about 11:15 p.m.
He said Bushira broke into the shop of one Mrs Mary Anunobi at No. 15, Bridge Road, Lafenwa in Abeokuta and stole different types of wears all valued at N122,000.
Shonibare disclosed that Bushira stole three men’s up-and-down valued at N24,000, one armless cloth valued at N16,000, and a round neck long sleeve material valued at N20,000.
”He also stole two short sleeve material valued at N14,000, two sleeves shirts valued at N16,000, a long trouser valued at N15,000, two short knickers valued at N10,000 and one hammer valued at N5000,” the prosecutor added.
He stated that Bushira was caught through the complainant when she noticed the convict was wearing one of the clothes stolen from her shop.
Shonibare said the complainant immediately reported the matter to the police, which led to his arrest.
The prosecutor added that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 516, 413 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun 2006.
