Dominican University, Ibadan, has apointed Professor Jacinta Opara as the second substantive Vice Chancellor of the institution.
The appointment was announced by the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the University, Chief Anthony Idigbe (SAN), following a rigorous recruitment process.
Prof Opara, a renowned environmental scholar and educator, brings a wealth of experience to the position, having held various academic and administrative roles across Africa, America, Europe, and Asia.
She is the first female Vice Chancellor of the institution and is expected to usher in an era of innovation and academic excellence.
The Dominican University, established in 2016, is the first university of the Order of Preachers (Dominican Order) on the African continent.
Prof Opara’s appointment is seen as a significant milestone in the university’s history, and her vision for the institution is to promote a vibrant educational community where staff and students can achieve academic excellence.
With over 25 years of experience in teaching, research, and consulting, Prof Opara is well-equipped to lead the university towards achieving its goals.
According to the statement, her leadership, mentorship, and research experience are enviable, and she has supervised several PhD candidates and Masters Students to completion.
The university community and stakeholders have welcomed Prof Opara’s appointment, expressing confidence in her ability to lead the institution to greater heights.
The statement reads in part: “Her appointment is expected to usher in new opportunities for partnership, research funding, international collaborations, innovations, and community outreach.
“Prof Opara’s inauguration is scheduled to take place soon, and she is expected to hit the ground running, building on the university’s strengths and addressing its challenges”, the statement said.
