The Head of Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, has emphasized that the contributions of civil servants should directly support the fulfillment of President Bola Tinubu’s “Renew Hope Agenda.”
Dr. Yemi-Esan disclosed this at the 2023 edition of the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation’s Recognition and Award Ceremony in Abuja, today.
Dr. Yemi-Esan, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Career Management Office, Dr. Marcus Ogunbiyi, further likened the civil service to a university, where officers brainstorm, conduct research, and generate reports to formulate policies that will sustain government initiatives.
“The officers of the Head of Service should brainstorm solutions for the office with commitment, study, and research to be able to meet the challenges faced by the Head of Service. Therefore, all officers of the Head of Service are part of the research team.
“Today is a special day for the Head of Service, not just for the office but also for the civil service in Nigeria. The service has embarked on several reforms, one of which is Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021 – 2025 (FCSSIP25).
“You will agree with me that the Head of Service has made significant efforts to encourage and provide facilities to support the actualization of FCSSIP25, which is an integral part of performance management. However, what we are doing today is also part of performance management”, he said.
According to him, “When an officer is given a responsibility, he or she is important to the nation because the successful delivery of the objectives and aspirations of their assignment is essential to the performance of the MDA, which in turn translates to the delivery of service to the nation while also contributing to the goals and objectives of Mr. President.
“Therefore, as an officer, your contribution to the aspirations of your principal is also a contribution to your own goals and aspirations, which will make you recognized and shine as well.
“I encourage all of you to give your best without relenting because the service is watching. Although we may not be able to recognize everyone due to limited resources, we will someday recognize them. As we reward and recognize today, we also have ways to sanction.”
While congratulating the awardees for their outstanding performances and dedication to duty, the Head of Service challenged them to work harder because “the reward for hard work is more work”.
“I want to congratulate all the awardess today, and what you to know that this is not the end. Recognition is for you to do more, so the service is expecting more from you as we hope to see more officers that will join you. You are an epitome of hope”, he said.
