Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, was invaded by armed robbers on Tuesday.
Money, cell phones, jewellery, and other goods are reportedly among the items the burglars took.
In the state’s Akinyele Local Government Area, the affected communities on the new Ibadan-Oyo Motorway include Alaja, Seriki, and Ogogo.
The event occurred at three in the morning, according to Punch, who visited the neighbourhoods.
One of the victims of the robbery in Alaja popularly called Alhaji, said, “The armed robbers were in my house for more than 40 minutes. They came in through the fence. They scaled the fence, and when they came in, they started asking for jewellery, phones and money.
“I gave them what I had but they were not satisfied. I also made a transfer into one account before they left. They, thereafter, moved to another house not too far from here. They removed the burglary of that house before they gained entrance. Though, I don’t know what they stole from the man.”
One of the community leaders, Raji Kazeem, who also confirmed the incident to our correspondent, said, “Yes, it is true. The armed robbers came in the midnight and robbed some houses. That’s why you saw landlords and landladies discussing in different groups.”
As of press time, all efforts to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, were not successful as he neither pick up his calls nor respond to the messages sent to his mobile number.
