Why Wizkid, Davido Couldn’t join my Record Label — Don Jazzy Reveal
Renowned music producer and co-founder of Mo’ Hits Records, Don Jazzy, recently opened up about why he couldn’t sign Wizkid and Davido to his label in a candid conversation with podcaster Fisayo Fosudo.
During the discussion, Don Jazzy expressed his admiration for Wizkid, acknowledging that it would have been “amazing” to have him on his label. However, he revealed that Wizkid had already been signed by Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment (EME) before he had the chance.
Don Jazzy also mentioned several other talented artists he wished he could have signed, including Davido, Falz, Simi, and Teni. Regarding Davido, he admitted that he had the opportunity to sign him but believed that the “Assurance” hitmaker would thrive independently.
While expressing his fondness for Simi and Teni, Don Jazzy regretfully stated that he didn’t sign them but wished he had. He also revealed that he came close to signing Falz but unfortunately, the deal didn’t materialize.
Don Jazzy emphasized that although he would love to sign every talented artist he comes across, it is not always feasible due to the extensive resources required to support their growth. He cited the example of Odumodublvck, expressing his enthusiasm for the artist and highlighting the benefits of being part of his Mavin label, given its strong social media presence.
Don Jazzy’s conversation shed light on his missed opportunities to sign Wizkid, Davido, and other talented artists, showcasing his appreciation for their work while recognizing the limitations of signing every artist in the highly competitive music industry.
