Orji Uzor Kalu, Senator representing Abia North district, has said that he will build a 20th century economy if Nigerians vote him as President in 2023.

Senator Kalu stated this when he was hosted on a radio station programme in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.

The senate chief whip said he is capable of doing the job of the presidency, however, until then he remains focused on attending to the problems of his constituency.

“Yes, if you give me the presidency, why not, I will take. I am capable of doing the job,” said the former Abia governor.

“The problem is who is capable of doing the job. For now, I am focusing on my constituency; there is a lot of job to be done.

“If you give me opportunity, I will like to go back to the Senate for a second term, but if the people of Nigeria want me to be president, they will show the hand.

“I can do the job. I can build a 20th century economy for our people.”

This is, however, coming at a time when there are heightened calls for a presidency of Igbo extraction, with some groups making consultations across the region for a consensus candidate to contest the 2023 presidency.
