A team of researchers at the University of Benin, UNIBEN have produced an automated three-in-one hand wash machine and presented it to the management of the institution.
This comes weeks after the team of researchers from the institutions Engineering and Medical Sciences Faculties produced a clinically tested ventilator, as part of its contribution towards the fight against the scourge of corovanirus.
Dr Benedicta Ehanire, the Public Relations Officer of UNIBEN, made the disclosure in a statement in Benin on Thursday.
Demonstrating the process of seamless hand wash with the machine, Professor Kessington Obahiagbon, who led the team of researchers, explained that the equipment is activated automatically, dispensing soap and water, when someone steps on the platform.
“The process concludes with the drying of hands; all in one minute,” he added.
He thanked the Vice Chancellor, Professor Lilian Salami, for challenging and encouraging researchers in the University to come up with trail blazing initiatives.
Receiving the team on behalf of Management, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Salami, was glad that the University was being re-awakened to take its place as a research and technology hub.
She said the University is to establish a Department of Innovation and Development that will undertake first class technological projects beyond the COVID-19 pandemic era.
She also urged the team and other researchers to involve their students in the various scientific breakthroughs.
The three-in-one automated hand wash machine eliminates incidence of multiple handling of the device, thus checking the possibility of spread of coronavirus.
