The chairman of Stanbic IBTC Holdings PLC, Mr Atedo Peterside has said he will not attend a forum organised by the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN over the deposition of the immediate past Emir of Kano, Sanusi Mohammad Sanusi II.
The monarch was deposed and banished to Nassarawa State by the governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje on Monday and replaced by the former Emir of Bichi, Aminu Ado Bayero.
Peterside however, in a letter to the CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, noted that he could not hide his displeasure over the ex-monarch’s banishment from Kano.
The bank boss noted “I received an invitation at short notice to be a panelist at a CBN consultative round table session taking place in Abuja tomorrow. Whilst thanking you for the invitation, i believe the correct thing for me to do is to respectfully decline to participate.
“It is true that i am currently out of the country, but it is also true that i could have reorganized my activities and flown into Abuja in time to join you tomorrow morning.
“My refusal to join you has more to do with the monumental events that took place yesterday viz the removal of the emir of Kano from office and the release of information that purportedly seeks to exile him and restrict his movements or confine them to a little known enclave in Nassarawa State.”
“I have decided to stay away from your consultative round table and instead use the opportunity of this letter to draw the attention of a wider audience to my displeasure with the events of yesterday. Please forgive me because i am in no mood to immediately pretend as if all is well by proceeding with business as usual.”
