The Nigerian government has said parents of students who are out of school may be prosecuted henceforth.
The Minister of Education said this in Abuja yesterday during a special session with the House of Representatives’ committee on basic education and services.
According to the minister, part of the steps to be taken to ensure that all Nigerian children are in school was the sensitization of the traditional rulers and to encourage states to make more inputs into basic education at various levels.
Minister Adamu, also suggested the immediate establishment of an education watch group to ensure absolute compliance with the federal government’s resolve to have every Nigerian child in school is met.
He said while other countries in Africa have fat and robust budgets for education, Nigeria is still lagging behind in the following suit. The minister also argued that denying a child basic education is a crime against humanity.
